The entire Winter School celebrated several students placing in area contests. Winter students submitted 100+ posters to the County Conservation Poster Contest. Winners in age-level categories were: (K-3) grades: 3rd place, Marlin H; 2nd place, Jawnny S; and 1st place, Kendayn K. In the 4-6 grades: 3rd place, Kensley K.; 2nd place, Peyton P; and in 1st place, Alexis S. In the 7-9 grades, Winter had 2nd and 3rd place winners at the county level. They are in 3rd place, Maliyah K, and in 2nd place, Savannah G. The County Conservation Speech Contest winners included 6th grader Jaxon N, who placed 1st at the County Level and 3rd at the Regional Level. Winter High's 10th grader Ethan R., placed 1st at both the County and Regional Levels and will be competing at the State Level in March. Congratulations to ALL of the students and their families!

Be the 1 Recognition: Be the 1 is recognition for outstanding work and commitment to the Winter School’s staff and students and our community. Jack Delabar earned his certification as a Certified Athletic Administrator through the NIAAA. Congratulations Mr. Delabar! Evander was nominated for the Student Be the 1. Lucas Splain, son of Jeffrey and

While in High School Lucas has quietly
completed each of his courses with
diligence. He always has a quiet, but
pleasant attitude and is willing to try new
things when asked. He is helpful,
including picking up the recycling for the
entire school each day; this can be a
messy job, but he never complains.
Following High School Lucas plans to go
into the work force, likely into
construction.

District’s Technology Education teacher,
says, “Lucas is a very diligent worker. He
excels at anything he does and gives
110%. He enjoys art as well as welding

It's Game Day!
The Winter Athletic Programs would like to extend a huge thank you to Cal’s Tuscobia Tavern for another incredibly generous donation. This marks their third meat raffle, and each one has topped the last. They most recently raising an impressive $1,614. Their continued support means a great deal to our athletes, coaches, and community.
The funds from this raffle will be used for a larger, big picture item that will benefit all athletic programs moving forward. Athletes and administration are currently discussing the best options to make the most meaningful impact.

The High Quiz Bowl team rounded out their virtual season last night with a win. Quiz Bowl is similar to a trivia contest, where students are asked a series of questions on various subjects they learn about in High School. This season the team went 5-4-1 and placed 6th out of 14 teams. The teams that placed ahead of Winter are overall considerably larger than our school. Because our students are involved in so many activities, many matches we had just 2 participants (teams are allowed four). The team will round out the season with an in-person competition in mid-March. Nice job, Quiz Bowl!
This week in Phy Ed, our students have been bringing the Olympic spirit to life!
Each class has been learning what the Olympics are, exploring different Olympic events, and discussing the history and traditions behind them. After learning about the events, students then get the chance to participate in their own PE-friendly versions.
This week’s featured events were speed skating and downhill skiing, giving students a fun and active way to experience winter Olympic sports while building movement skills, teamwork, and excitement for global competition.
Students who are not actively competing are encouraged to cheer from the stands for their favorite “countries”.
It’s been great to see and hear students learning, moving, and cheering each other on just like real Olympians!
We even had a guest Zamboni operator come in and ensure that our competition surface was in tip top shape with some help from a student.

Mrs. Strop's 5th graders participated in a virtual field trip called SCAT and TRACKS. In this interactive activity students worked together in small groups using clues and evidence(scat, tracks, markings) left behind to identify animals. Another way to identify an animal is by the type of walker it is. Is it a bounder, pacer, diagonal walker, or galloper? Fifth graders always have a blast with this field trip. They are excited to get out in nature and start identifying animals. What a fun activity!
