Today the Advanced Placement Environmental Science class conducted an activity to better understand "The Tragedy of the Commons", a scientific paper they read about partitioning among community members the resources found in common areas. Each student had to "catch" enough fish to survive for the next year, but could take extras to sell for a profit. However, if each person took too many, there would be none left to repopulate for the next year and eventually the food supply would run out. Students each developed their own strategy and also enjoyed finishing off the Goldfish bags when the lab was over! High School labs are always best when they include food!

Members of our high school basketball teams helped our elementary students with their Christmas shopping event this past Wednesday. It was a great opportunity for our student athletes to show our younger students what it means to be a Warrior! They are role models and they WORK every day to set a good example for the next generations! There were a few more helpers who were not available for a picture at this time but they all contributed and are appreciated!
Some of the comments we received from teachers and event organizers:

"Mr. Delabar,
I just wanted to inform you that the HS helpers were very "Benevolent" and Altruistic. Yes I googled and copied/pasted those words.
They were great!"
-Mr. Moelter - 4th Grade

"They did a GREAT job! 🥳🥳🥳"
Jan Skille - 1st grade

"Thank you guys so much for being good role models to the little guys!"
Event Organizer"

Lots of laughs and holiday cheer was in the air this day!

Boys and girls basketball players of the week going into the start of the season!
Coaches Mike, Jennie, Shawna, and Deven chose athletes who made their mark this week and shared some words:

Girls-
Ava was selected as our player of the week.
Ava has been putting in the work this year. She’s confident with the ball and her defense has been outstanding. Her shooting is on point. Keep up the great work Ava.

Boys-
Logan has been selected as the HS Boys Player of the week. Logan does everything we ask of him and he does it with a smile. He is always punctual. He works hard in practice and he has made consistent improvement.

BOYS BASKETBALL UPDATE! Please note that the boys will be playing first for Friday, December 5th.
Good afternoon, given the numbers and varsity experience level of our boys basketball team this season, we have decided to play a hybrid JV/Varsity schedule for the 25/26 season. This gives our boys the best opportunity to compete at a more competitive level and learn and grow to become better players for the future. Please contact Mr. Delabar with any questions or concerns you may have.
Attached is both our new BOYS ONLY Schedule, as well as the updated Boys/Girls schedule. Some of the changes have caused some girls game times to be shuffled around, so please make note of the changes in your calendars.

Gracie was chosen as player of the week last week by coach Mike and Jennie.

Gracie is hardworking and has become an outstanding defender. She’s been pushing herself in practices and really having a lot of fun doing it. Her dance moves on the court are top notch. Keep up the great work Gracie.

Write up by coach Mike.

Mr. Delabar’s PE students hosted a Just Dance party today for interested high school students!
Mr. Delabar randomly discovered that a high percentage of our high schoolers had an affinity for Just Dance, so they arranged a pre-break party for the kids to relax and have fun while still working on their cardio and rhythms. Some of our kids can really move! The PE class created the playlist for the event and one student donated tons of glow sticks for us to enhance the experience.
Overall, it was a smashing success. Thanks to all of the participating students and all of the parents who have probably heard these songs hundreds of times in the past 14-18 years! Us teachers were thoroughly impressed!

Winter High School tenth grader, Ethan has won the American Legion Oratorical Contest held at the Winter American Legion Post 303 on November 10, 2025. He delivered a prepared oration as well as an oration on a randomly assigned constitutional topic, Article 3 of the U.S. Constitution. Ethan impressed the judges with the way his speech was presented and his knowledge of the Constitution with his speech titled A Nation Built on Freedom.

The American Legion Oratorical Contest exists to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation for the U.S. Constitution among high school students. Since 1938, the program has presented participants with an academic speaking challenge that teaches important leadership qualities, the history of our nation’s laws, the ability to think and speak clearly, and an understanding of the duties, responsibilities, rights and privileges of American citizenship.

Ethan was awarded a total of $300.00, from the Winter Post and the Sawyer County American Legion, and will go on to compete in January against winners from 6 other counties in northwestern Wisconsin for further cash prizes. This provides him an opportunity to compete for a $25,000 scholarship at the National level.
